94-95 SN SVO Upper
As I do more shortened intakes I thought I would show some pictures of what you face when doing them yourself. The SN 94-95 upper Cobra and SVO intakes have the plaque area cast into them, unlike the 93 Cobra that just has a flat top that the metal Cobra plaque gets adhered to. The 94 Cobra has a cast in raised plaque area that will look kinda messy once it is shortened. See photo below.

If you want to do one of these SN uppers, try to find a Ford Motorsport SVO SN 94-95 upper intake. They have a flat plaque area that has the Ford emblem and words "Ford Motorsport SVO" milled lightly into the plaque surface. If you remove 2" of the runners, the Ford emblem and the SVO remain as well as part of the Motorsport writing. The remainder of the Motorsport words can be filled with body filler and smoothed off as well as the welds on top of the runners.
When you remove the 2" from the upper runners, here is what you will have. Notice the 2" section that has been cut out. It has the 3/8" NPT bung in it, so remove the remaining bung and drill/tap it with a 9/16" drill and 3/8" NPT tap if you wish to use a Fox vacuum tree in it. As you can see also, the throttle body plenum will not mate up perfectly - one side has a small indention that must be built up while welding to close the gap.

When the upper is welded back together, I rough cut the welds down so that if someone looks under the intake, the welds are not obvious. Of course this will only fool someone who is not very familiar with what these intakes look like stock, but Chevy and MOPAR guys may not know that. Here is a shot of the bottom with the Fox Vacuum tree installed.

When it's all done, complete your "body work" and smooth things out and this is what they look like. Power will be raised in the rpm band. I am supposed to get a before and after dyno of this intake, and if I do (harder than it sounds), I will post them up.

93 Cobra Upper
The 93 Cobra Upper process is pretty much the same. Here is one with the 2" piece removed.

Here it is getting lined up and ready to weld

Once welded up, you grind down the welds with a stone, bur or sanding wheels

Then some basic body work makes for a much less noticable job

One trick thing i was able to do with this shorty was to make a Cobra plaque in Vinyl right at 66% of the original size which makes it almost look stock
